REC is a retreat based on the TEC program designed for residents of prison inmate populations.
The founders of this retreat made TEC over 25 years ago and realized that Jesus was calling them to help spread the "Good News" of Jesus' mission to the prison population. They started the retreats at the South Dakota State Prison in Sioux Falls, SD. These retreats have spread throughout Minnesota too.
The REC program that is in the New Ulm diocese is held in Appleton, MN. The REC retreat program like TEC is a rewarding spiritual experience for the inmate as well as for all who graciously volunteer to come to the prison to let the Holy Spirit work through them. The retreat is open to men and women who are over the age of 21 and are able to pass a criminal background check.
The volunteers must also have a 4 hour training session prior to having contact with the prison population.
The training session acquaints everyone with prison policy and procedure. The prison has set up their sessions quarterly
and the following are the available dates:

Each person involved in the REC program needs to attend a yearly training session put on by the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, MN.
Please contact Larry or Pam Loken (contact information below) at least two months prior to these training sessions so we can get the necessary paperwork from the prison to you.
This retreat is rewarding to those who become involved with this ministry. Christ does call us to visit the imprisoned as well as the sick and all who are in need of Christ's unconditional love. We are his instruments to show that love. Volunteers leave to housing outside prison every night. We will find outside housing for the weekend for all volunteers from out of town.
Remember when deciding what weekend(s) you would like to work you have to have a training session completed
prior to participating in the REC weekend. We have set the following dates for the 2008-2009 REC retreat weekends:

January 30-February 1, 2009
May 1-3, 2009
The REC starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and concludes at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Prairie REC is getting short of funds to be used for priest stipends to fill in for priests at a REC retreat, office materials, postage, Bibles, and other items used on REC weekends. Please mail checks to Larry Loken at the above address with the checks made out to Residents Encounter Christ.
